PICO/OLYMPIC ONE WAY PROPOSAL
City Councilman Jack Weiss has joined Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in proposing
a three phase plan to make Pico Boulevard primarily Eastbound and
Olympic Boulevard primarily Westbound.
The proposal includes plans to eliminate parking on Pico Boulevard during
extended a.m.and p.m. peak hours and reducing speed and convenience of
"contra" lanes going opposite of the preferred direction. No environmental
impact report is planned for this substantial plan to move traffic from Santa
Monica through West Los Angeles so it will be up to the communities affected
to determine how they will be impacted and register concerns. The current plan
will start at Centinela Boulevard and go to San Vicente Boulevard on Pico and
Centinela to La Brea on Olympic.
How will this change our neighborhood? How will local businesses on Pico and
surrounding streets be affected? Is this plan, which will be in effect 24
hours a day 7 days a week, intended to enhance road speeds and capacity to
facilitate further Westside and Century City develpoment rather than simply
handle the traffic that's already there? What about cut through
North/South traffic? What about Parking? Accessibility? Safety? Freeway
access? Expo?

soon.
